Our History
Klager's Meats is the oldest business still operating in Fonthill, with 75 years of uninterupted service. When the shop first opened in 1934 by Eleanor Arbour's father, Gord Klager, customers came in every week for their groceries and quality meats.
Several years ago, the Arbours scaled back and now focus on providing quality cuts of meat and home-cooked, ready-to-eat meals with personal service. They now sell store-made hamburger patties and sausages, that have no filler and no msg, along with meat pies and they take orders for roast beef and gravy. The Arbours have recently added cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers and meatballs with sauce to their menu.
At the Pelham Farmer's Market, from the first week of May through to the end of October, you can find Fred & Jamie grilling Klager's hamburgers. On Market days, Klager's closes at 2 p.m. to get the grills ready for their hungry clientel.
The Arbours try to cater to their customers' every need, whenever possible. They will cut meat the way the customer wants and they offer personal, small town service.
When the holidays call for that extra something special, Klager's has just what you need. With fresh, free range turkeys, lamb, suckling pigs, meat pies, mincemeat pies, gum drop cake and tarts your table is sure to please!
Fred and Eleanor are members of the Pelham Business Association, the Fonthill Lion and Lioness Clubs and have been involved in many town committees in an effort to support as many local groups as possible.
